Abyssinia, Louise: Unlike fans Bob Hepburn of the Toronto Star and Martha Hall Findlay of the federal Libs, the National Post’s Jonathan Kay says Louise Arbour, who’s stepping down as the UN’s “human rights” Czarina, “won’t be missed”:

…Arbour became the archetype of a recognizable breed: The Canadian “honest broker” who, in a bid to connect favourably with the fashionable foreign-policy elites of Europe and the developing world, internalizes their political bigotries. One wishes that her successor — from wherever he or she may hail — won’t succumb to the same temptation. Unfortunately, precedent doesn’t serve up much hope.

Actually, I think she will be missed—by Iran, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Libya, Syria, Algeria and the rest of the Israel-deplorers who make up the OIC, the UN’s largest voting bloc. No doubt Ms. Arbour will be able to parlay her popularity in those quarters into another cushy, well paying gig.

Minister Vic Toews' description of al-Bour as a "disgrace" is accurate.
