Happy Birthday, neighbour!: Here's a fitting tribute in honour of the glorious 4th--Ray Charles. On Israeli TV. Singing "America the Beautiful." With Hebrew subtitles. (As a cheeky aside--because in the U.S., unlike here in the Soviet republic of Kanuckistan, one can still be cheeky without having to worry that someone will make you account for it to a bunch humourless p.c. anti-freedom apparatchniks--I offer my favourite Ray Charles annectode. It seems that, despite being blind, Ray, back in the day, was one mega-randy dude. His backup singers, the "Raylettes" (who spent almost as much time on their backs as they did singing) used to joke that, in order to be a Raylette, you had to "let Ray.")

There you go: comedy, sex and soul. I can't think of a better way to celebrate the birth of land of the free and the home of the brave.
