J’accuse: An open letter to Bernie Farber, head of the Canadian Jewish Congress, with apologies to M. Emile Zola for swiping the first line of his famous missive:

Sir,

Would you allow me, grateful as I am for the kind reception you once extended to me, to show my concern about maintaining your well-deserved prestige and to point out that your star, which, until now, has shone so brightly, risks being dimmed by the most shameful and indelible of stains?

I refer, of course, to the CJC’s alliance of convenience with the likes of Mohamed  Elmasry and Harpoon Siddiqui, two gentlemen who, not to put too fine a point on it, don’t exactly wish the Jewish state well. The CJC, in its all too finite wisdom, has decided that, since the Canadian Islamic Congress and the Toronto Star’s esteemed editorial page editor emeritus are as thrilled with Canada’s “human rights” machinery as the CJC is, it somehow makes sense to make common cause with them and even to link to their words on the CJC site.

Mr. Farber, this is nothing more and nothing less than utter madness.

Allow me to explain, since the nuances of the situation seem to be lost on you and the other members  of our Jewstablishment. The Human Rights Commissions and Tribunals, which you and your confreres have turned to over the years in order to “protect” Canadian Jewry from the “threat” of Nazis—actually, a few pathetic White Power creeps/I Heart Hitler types— are nothing more than vehicles to enforce political correctness. As such, they are not “protecting” Jews from anything. In fact, like a bunch of out-of-control Hummers they are, even now, mowing down our freedom and ensuring that when sharia comes a-knocking, Canada will be have no choice but to let it in.

That’s something that your “friends” in the Islamic Community have figured out—Mohammed Elmasry, who has championed the odious Robert Mugabe, of all people, and who brought suit against Maclean’s Magazine for publishing, not “hate speech,” but articles which had the temerity to assail Islam and some of its adherents; Harpoon, who rails against the West, the U.S. and Israel from the heights of his bully pulpit at Canada’s largest circulation newspaper, the Toronto Star; and even Syed Soharwardy, who heads up both the fierce-sounding Islamic SUPREME Council of Canada (my emphasis) along with the innocuous-sounding Muslims Against Terrorism, and who complained to Alberta’s thought cops when that loudmouth Ezra Levant (whom the CJC loathes, deplores and abominates) went and published those “offensive” Mo ‘toons in his now defunct publication, The Western Standard.

You remember the Mo ‘toons, don’t you? The ones that disturbed you, too? The ones that prompted the CJC to issue a news release condemning Jyllands-Posten for printing them? As you explained in a e-mail to me at the time—I was puzzled by the CJC’s position and had written to tell you so—it was incumbent upon us as Jews to consider those Muslims whose feelings may have been “hurt” by the ‘toons. (Huh?) Also, lots of Canadian Muslim organizations—including the innocuous-sounding Muslims Against Terrorism—had commended the CJC for its release. (So what? If those guys think you’re on the right track, you can be certain you’ve taken a wrong turn.) And, oh yeah, you were hoping to march “arm in arm” with the Muslim community to Queen’s Park to persuade the province to fund your religious schools.

Great plan—along the lines of the White Star company billing a mammoth steamship on its maiden voyage “unsinkable.” For, no sooner had John Tory, the leader of the Ontario Conservatives, agreed to carry your torch than it became evident that A) the Ontario electorate had no taste for paying for madrassahs and B) he had made a colossal blunder that not only sunk his own fortunes and those of his party, but pretty much put the kibosh on public funding for religious schools (other than Catholic ones, which, for historical reasons, already have funding) for the foreseeable future, if not for all time.

Alas, you and Jewish leaders couldn’t get past your own self-interest to see the obvious, and were thus the architects of your own--and John Tory's--misfortune.

The same holds true for your confounding and unaccountable faith in the Human Rights apparatus. You insist that Canada’s Jews need HRCs and Ts for their psychological well-being, because if you and the Friends of Simon Wiestenthal and B’nai Brith can’t get on with your agenda to mete out just desserts to every last incontinent, decrepit Nazi, every last White Power pisher bloviating from the comfort of his folks’ basement about “da Jews,” well, who can say what could happen? Yellow badges for Canadian Jewry!  Krystallnacht redux in downtown Toronto! Concentration Camps in Algonquin Park (where, if the appalling conditions don’t get us, the July black flies definitely will)!

Puh-leeze. I for one have not squandered so much as a hemi-semi-nano second on the Nazi threat; that U-boat sailed long ago. I am, however, mighty concerned about a very real clear and present danger—the forward march of sharia in both its violent and non-violent manifestations. That’s sharia, spelled s-h-a-r-i-a.  I suggest you and the rest of our leadership remove your heads from your anal sphincters and bone up on it, so you’ll know that when Elmo and Harpoon tout the thought cops it may not be out of their love for “human rights” as articulated in our federal and provincial human rights laws, but because of the convenient way that, on the issue of free expression, our human rights codes are—what are the odds?—sharia compliant. And because they are in synch with Islamic law, you, the Islamists and our Human Rights apparatchiks are ensuring that a vital debate about Islam, its teachings and adherents, will be shut down, thereby allowing an Iron Veil to descend, once and for all, on our shores.

I can assure of one thing, Mr. Farber. Come the caliphate, you and the other clueless Jews who have defecated on our freedom will appeal to your Muslim friends—the ones with whom you have been so keen to “build bridges," the ones who are playing you for a fool—in vain.
